Avoid Marketing Scams

We have been alerted that at least one for-profit company has been targeting the families of Prince William County Students with offers to sell an expensive education-related product and the claim that it is endorsed by the School Division. Please be aware that Prince William County Schools does not endorse or encourage the sale of commercial products to our students. While advertising is allowed on Prince William County websites and other locations, this is not a product endorsement and families should resist any sales pitch that suggests that Prince William County Public Schools recommends the purchase of a specific item.

Henderson Elementary School
is Designated 2014 School of Excellence

Our staff, students, and community have the distinction of being named PWCS School of Excellence. This is the 12th year Henderson has earned the coveted title.

School of Excellence is the highest recognition awarded to schools by the PWCS School Board. It signifies high levels of performance on state accreditation, Annual Measurable Objectives, and in moving toward the goals of the Division’s Strategic Plan.

Congratulations to everyone who helped to earn this important indicator of student success.

Every Minute Counts
     Every  Minute  Counts

Every Minute Counts! is the name we have given to Henderson's Reading Incentive program.

What You Need to Know
We are asking you to track your child's reading minutes each week AT HOME. (Your child's teacher will track the number of minutes read each week in school.) All types of reading are accepted and encouraged (including recipes, magazines, comics, graphic novels, game directions etc.) Listening to you read aloud at home may also go on your student's reading log! Your child's AT HOME reading calendar log will be turned in first thing on Friday mornings for our amazing parent volunteers to tally toward our school wide goal of

6 MILLION MINUTES!

We know from research that the more time children spend reading, the higher their reading achievement. Our goal is to help each child make accelerated progress while building the gift of a life-long reading habit!

Military-Connected

Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) received a DoDEA grant to help military-connected students and their family transition into PWCS and provide specific support to military-connected families. To that end, PWCS recently hired a Military Student Transition Consultant (MSTC) from the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC). At this time, the consultant will be working initially with families from Ashland, Henderson, and Pattie Elementary Schools as she develops a military-connected transition program for the entire School Division.

In an effort to serve you better, we are asking you to complete this short survey. Your feedback is important and will be used when determining the type of support and resources that would be most beneficial to your family. Your participation in completing this survey is voluntary but strongly encouraged. All information that you disclose in this survey will be kept confidential within PWCS. Anonymized and summary data will be given to a 3rd party evaluator to ensure we are meeting the grant’s goals.

If you have any questions about this survey or the program, please feel free to contact Darlene Friedline at friedld@pwcs.edu , or Carolyn Juba at jubacm@pwcs.edu .
